Spider Eye was commissioned to provide all the digital work on this powerful award winning film due to our legendary high standards. Animation drawings were provided by the client Illuminated Films. After the final camera check process, we scanned the artwork at a suitably high resolution for cinema quality 35mm film. Over 300 backgrounds were scanned, spliced and graded to provide colour continuity throughout the film. Extensive colour models were produced for each character and sequence. The  animation was then digitally coloured using the Animo Ink & Paint system. During the final compositing stage, many effects such as rim lights and contact shadows were added.  Adobe After Effects was used to provide additional atmospheric effects such as smoke, rain, snow, lightning, flares and explosions. The scenes were finally graded for correct colour, saturation and contrast, and then rendered as high resolution tiff images for output to 35mm film. The resulting film gained a host of awards on the 2002 festival circuit, with awards including the Children’s Choice Award at the British Animation Awards in 2002; the Pulcinella Award for Best Production of the Year at Cartoons on the Bay; 1st Prize at the Children’s Choice Cinemagic Festival, Northern Ireland; Best Television Special at Annecy; the International Student Jury Award at BANFF International Television Festival; the Silver Griffon – Best Animated Short at Giffoni International Film Festival; winner of the animation category at Tokyo Kinder Film Festival; 2nd Prize in the Childrens' Award at the International Film Festival for Children & Youth in Uruguay 2002; the Golden Butterfly Award – Best Short Film
at the International Festival of Film & Video in Iran 200; the Grand Prix du Festival Bourg-en-Bresse Festival; the Alves Costa Award at the Cinanima Festival in Portugal and the Youth Jury Award for Most Inspirational Short Film or Video (Ages 9 – 12) at the Reel to Real International Film Festival for Youth and Families in Canada.
